Mark Hamill Accident: What happened to Mark Hamill?
American actor, Mark Hamill was involved in a terrible car crash in 1977 while he was still active in the Star Wars franchise.
According to sources, the accident was so bad that he thought his career might come to an end. The accident happened not long after Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope had finished filming.
Hamill’s accident resulted in a fractured nose and cheekbone and also left several scars on his face. In a 1978 interview, he shared how the accident occurred.
“I was way out in the sticks somewhere and there were no cars and no traffic, thank God. I was going about 65-70 mph… I was speeding, going too fast… and what happened, I think, was that I tried to negotiate an off-ramp and lost control, tumbled over, and went off-road,” he said.
Hamill also said that he was very scared because he thought his career was in jeopardy because he was at the rise of his career when he played Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise.
“I just woke up and I was in the hospital and I knew that I had hurt myself very, very, very badly… but I wasn’t really sure. And then someone held a mirror up to my face and I just felt my career was over,” he added.
