Yemi Alade Biography

The Abia State, born Afro-pop singer, and songwriter Yemi Alade. Gained popularity following her win on the Peak Talent Show 2009. Besides, her hit single Johnny. She began her musical journey in an all-girl group by the name Noty Spices in 2005. Her first single is “Fimisile” that she released under the Jus’ Kidding’ label. Yemi then signed onto the music label, Effyzzie Music Group in 2012, and released her single “Ghen Ghen Love”.

The following year, 2013, July, Alade released the video for her Afro-R&B song “Bamboo”, produced by Fliptyce. The song became a popular wedding song and a moderate hit.

Her other single, “Johnny”, was leaked to the internet in the last quarter of 2013 and quickly it became an international hit in countries like Tanzania, Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and the United Kingdom, among others. At the time it had no accompanying music video.

She has also been featured on the covers of several magazines and performed around the world. Sharing stages with artists like Shina Peters, Mary J. Blige, M.I, Wiz kid, Becca, May D, Waje, and Yemi Sax.

In March 2014, Alade teamed up with cinematographer Clarence Peters to create a music video for “Johnny”, which was released too much critical acclaim. It has over 90 million views on YouTube as of 2018.

Notably, Yemi joined M.I, Waje, Timi Dakota, and Burna Boy in singing the theme song for Port Harcourt, the UNESCO 2014 World Book Capital, as part of a project urging young people to read and stay in school. She has continuously released songs that become instant hits and is considered one of the best musical stars from Africa.

Alade is not married. She was rumored to be dating the likes of Phyno, Hollywood actor Alexx Ekubo and her manager, Taiye Aliyu.

One of the allegations was that the “King of Queens” (Alade) had a secret romantic relationship. This with the Nigerian actor and model, Alexx Ekubo.

Alexx Ekubo played the role of “Johnny the Lover boy” in Yemi’s music video of her single titled “Johnny”. This is what Yemi had to say about it; “Alexx is a very cool and lovable guy. Ekubo is so cute and amazing, I believe that’s why people actually think we dating”.

She admitted to having a crush on the Nigerian rapper, Phyno. This was her own confession at the MTV Base real talk. She also mentioned that she is open to the idea of dating Phyno. This was Yemi answer; “Well, as the mama tangerine, if the household tangerine would love that, then yes I would”.

As for Aliyu, the two are reported to have parted ways.
