Eric Popper is a 30-year-old Deerfield Beach driver, who was involved in the road rage dispute in North Miami on June 202. He is a civilian fire inspector with Miami Beach but resigned shortly after the incident, according to Local 10 News.

According to the reports, he pulled out his gun and shot at the other driver several times in the middle of the busy highway.
Despite the fact that the shooter told Florida Highway Patrol that he shot because he suspected the other driver had a gun, he was held responsible.
Popper surrendered to the FHP on July 21 and is facing felony charges.
He has since been released on bond from the Miami-Dade County jail. But he is still facing a number of charges, including aggravated assault with a firearm.
The shooting occurred on June 21, 2021, around 7 a.m., near Northwest 151st Street.

The video was provided by Popper’s attorney, Robert Gershman, who affirmed the video is from the incident.

In the video, when the victim honked his horn, Popper can be heard on the dashcam saying, “Oh, f—- off,” before slamming on his brakes.
Popper is seen in the video picking a handgun from the center console and pointing it at his driver’s door. He pointed the handgun at the defendant’s right-front passenger door as he passed the victim on the right.
The driver then pulled up to the passenger side of the car and threw a water bottle at Popper’s vehicle, according to FHP. That’s when Popper fired 11 shots through his own windows, according to FHP. Popper collided with the other vehicle several times.
Popper and the other driver eventually came to a halt and dialed 911.

Was Eric Popper Arrested?
Eric Popper was not arrested by FHP but was released at the scene. However, on July 21 he turned himself in. The driver voluntarily provided the video to investigators, according to the FHP.
According to the arrest report, both the victim and Popper confirmed the incident to the police.

During the investigation, Popper told state troopers that he thought he was being shot at and that’s why he started shooting. The other driver claimed he didn’t have a gun but did throw a water bottle at Popper’s car.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported to any of them.
